Overview

The Continental GTC Black Edition is a limited edition convertible grand tourer that combines a striking aesthetic with a stunning array of driving technology. The result is a car with the power to excite every sense.

It features Bentley’s new High Performance Hybrid powertrain, which means it has both a 4.0 litre, turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor, for exhilarating performance, alongside the option to drive on electric power alone. It also includes the Bentley Performance Active Chassis, which brings together a number of advanced chassis systems to elevate the car’s dynamic handling. With darker, edgier styling to complete the picture, this is a convertible unlike any other.

Design

The Continental GTC Black Edition has a wealth of stand-out styling features, inside and out.

On the outside of the car, the Blackline Specification turns the chrome exterior to a head-turning black. That includes the Bentley matrix grille surrounds and the bumper grilles – even the ‘BENTLEY’ wordmark and the Bentley badges. In addition to a Beluga black front splitter, the car also features prominent ‘Black Edition’ badges.

The 22” ten-spoke gloss black wheels can be paired with brake callipers painted in your choice of Mandarin, red or black. And because this is a convertible, the inside and outside should blend together seamlessly when the roof is down. That’s why the interior follows the same stylistic story, with Piano Black veneers and a choice of leather colours, punctuated by optional contrast stitching in a colour to match that of the brake callipers.

The Front Seat Comfort Specification has also been added, providing heating, ventilation, massage and electrical adjustments for both front seats. Deep pile overmats, jewel fuel and oil filler caps and sports pedals complete the picture.

Mood lighting adds drama, especially at night, while Animated Welcome Lamps take things even further, projecting a stunning light show onto the ground, whenever you open a door.

The Continental GTC Black Edition also includes the stunning Bentley Rotating Display. This is a revolving, three-sided panel in the centre of the fascia, that effectively allows you to choose whether you want to interact with the car via the touchscreen or instead enjoy a digital detox, with just three finely crafted analogue dials visible in place of the screen. A third face shows no instrumentation at all – just a sleek panel of Piano Black veneer.



Performance

At the heart of the Continental GTC Black Edition lies Bentley’s new High Performance Hybrid powertrain, which makes this car even more powerful than the previous Continental GTC Speed model – at the time Bentley’s most powerful convertible.

The High Performance Hybrid powertrain combines 4.0 litre V8 engine with an electric motor, resulting in a combined system power output of 680 PS and 930 Nm of torque. That’s enough power to propel you from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds), with a top speed of 270 km/h (168 mph). The car is also fitted with a stainless steel sports exhaust, to make the most of the rich roar from its V8 engine.

This incredible power is just part of the reason this car is so exhilarating to drive, however. It also features the Bentley Performance Active Chassis, a collection of cutting edge chassis systems that work together to offer the ultimate driving experience – especially when you put the car into Sport mode.

An electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) gives a boost to rear-wheel grip when you are taking corners at speed, enabling you to power through bends more quickly, with complete confidence. The Bentley Dynamic Ride anti-roll system works to reduce body roll at the same time without compromising on the refined ride you expect when cruising in a straight line. And all-wheel steering conveys two useful benefits. At low speeds – when manoeuvring in town, for example – it shrinks the car’s turning circle. But at highway speeds, it delivers smoother lane changes, for a more comfortable ride.

The suspension system features new twin-valve dampers, which delivers a wider range of experience between the car’s different driving modes – so Comfort mode is even more comfortable than ever, while Sport mode is more responsive and exhilarating.



Technology

The Continental GTC Black Edition features a wealth of digital technology designed to make life with your car easier and more enjoyable. Features aimed at making urban driving easier include Traffic Sign Recognition, Park Assist, a Top View Camera, Reversing Traffic Warning and Pedestrian Warning. There are numerous connectivity options, with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, Internet radio and wireless phone charging. The car is also fitted with both the wired and wireless versions of Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

You can use the new My Bentley App Studio to download apps direct to the car, from a selection supported by Bentley. So if you prefer a third party navigation app, for example, you can run it on the car’s system rather than your phone, giving it access to car data such as fuel and/or charge levels.

Remote features are provided via the My Bentley smartphone app, which can be used to locate your car or check whether the windows are closed and the doors are locked. It can even alert you if your car appears to have been moved without your consent.

Personalisation

There are seven standard exterior colours to choose from, however further options include the paints in Bentley’s extended range and the satin paint range. In total, there are more than 80 finishes you can choose from.

In addition to the gloss black painted 22” wheel, an alternative finish is available, combining black pockets between the spokes with bright machined faces, for a lighter aesthetic.

Inside the car, there is a wealth of options available to you, covering everything from the veneers and the stitching on the seats to key features, such as the sound system. The car is fitted with Bentley Signature Audio system as standard, however you can opt to upgrade to either the 16-channel Bang & Olufsen for Bentley system or the 20-channel Naim for Bentley system.
